TAMASHA - ALBUM REVIEW

 

The Review

This album came out yesterday and to be honest I was a little skeptical about it because their genre of music is totally out of my comfort zone rather, what I usually listen to.  I must say that these three men are lyrical geniuses, I guess that’s why people like their songs so much and this makes their songs very catchy. Their genre actually makes me think of getting in to a matatu to go home  after a long day of running errands in town but there were these particular songs that I really liked ;

 Tamasha!

This song caught my attention because it has a different melody than what has been used in the other songs. The other reason is that they integrated kikuyu in it for instance’ tiga wana mani’ which I think really adds flavor to the song. As the title a state, this song is really suitable for parties because of its groovy melody people will be dancing to it, even if they don’t understand the lyrics.

 Confirmed...

I really liked this song because the lyrics are very relatable. If it’s confirming the fuliza, confirming if you have locked your door or being confirmed as a Christian I think one of these events one can attest that they have experienced them once in their lives.  We also see the word play used throughout the song to explain the title of the song.

 The other songs in the album include Toka Watu, which I actually thought was stealing from people but it actually stresses the need to be alone, not in the sense of loneliness but rather solitude. Expressway, which was really catchy, Bae Wako amekusave Aje, tanker and Stakabadhi.

Although the songs were fascinating ,some of the lyrics  were hard to make sense of  because they focused on the lyrical flow. However, I commend the artists for their creativity  on how their words rhyme  and blend together which makes this particular genre they’re in very unique. The Kenyan music industry needs a breath of fresh air and this is it. I for sure will add this album to my playlist and I hope you will too.

Confession…

Wes’… I feel like you brought me to the light. If it wasn’t your status, I wouldn’t even know these guys early enough to keep enjoying their music.

Ok… so, the song. Can we first light it up? If you know, you know. I feel like song is personalized. And in some sense, it actually is because it’s a story. I’m personalizing it to me as the subject.  To best enjoy it, I think you should too.

Getting to it

So here I am, as I said in the review, there’s nothing I can’t do. The chorus is so clear you just have to go through the lyrics. So light it up, and if you don’t know what I mean, just tag along, you’ll get it. The beats are killing it at this point. And the first subject; Nellythegoon tells the story as somebody who feels no pressure as long as certain things are clear to him.

He flaunts his game by telling people not to wonder why the wrong things happen to them yet they make the wrong moves in the first place.

After the chorus

Benzema also has a story to tell. Haha… some of us are too quiet and sometimes, we need to prove a point. I’m the good guy. But they don’t know I do things low key. You need to be willing to try things with me. Let’s light it up guys….

Can I say I am that guy?

Ok guys… I told you, to best enjoy the song… personalize it as though you were the subject. Put yourself in the music. Feel it, enjoy it, listen to it, learn it… then I don’t think the copyright artists would mind if you sing along. Let’s do this…. Na Iwake!

The minute I fully listened to this song and understood what exactly it’s about, I knew one thing for sure… knowing what is krimino and avoiding it was something I am going to do in 2019.

Honestly though, How can you be a ‘Figure’ and do criminal things? How? Hiyo ni krimino. Haha!! What is krimino? There are a number of criminal things that are not necessarily written down making them krimino. Listen along; also, the lyrics are so clear.

At this point, itabidi umebebwa. Haha! I’m sorry I got overwhelmed. Anyway, you notice the parts he says (aii) after particular lines, that’s the most ‘criminous’ I doubt there’s such a word but I’m just trying to drive the point of how much more of a crime it is.

What they mean…

Who are they? The artists; nellythegoon x Ochungulo family. What they mean is… How can you like someone who keeps calling you idiot? How do you not stay close to a liquor store? Aii… Hiyo ni krimino. There are just lists of so many things that do not go together and can be considered krimino.

Of course there are so many cool things to be done that are certainly not criminal. Unfortunately, you just have to be cool. I wish I had a tutorial on how to be cool… Haha… let’ learn from this first. Do you already know what krimino is? Perfect. …

We have to come with the terms that when you stand as a public figure, there are simply things that you cannot do. And if you do them, there’s no telling how much you’ll be shamed for it.

Why work when all that you’re working for isn’t meant for you? Ok … ok… Before further ado, I really hope that we know what ‘work’ in this context means. If you don’t, honestly, I don’t know what you are doing with your life… Anyway, (you see me work, work, work, work….)

Like almost all equilibriums in life, there’s always a part of that equation where you fall in love with somebody whom you know is a mistake or rather, you should keep away from. Girls know what I’m talking about. Guys… do you follow? So what girls do, is that they see the pot in the fire, almost boiling and all they want to do is put a finger in it and test how hot it could get. Yet we’re the ones with the holy hole (Nobody touch me in the righteous)

So what happens, girl needs some attention from the cool nigga who’s not really sure what he wants just yet. (All I wanted from you was to give me, something that I never had, something…)  How does she get it? Easy.

Manipulation Power

Love is so complicated. That’s what I get from I don’t know how many people. I say I don’t know how many coz I clearly haven’t been updating a recorded statistic. But if I was to do that, probably the number would outdo those statistics pages.

I think I got a little overwhelmed there. Love is not complicated really. It’s the easiest thing ever. You know what makes it complicated? Yes, we make it become complicated when we allow other people the chance to come at the centre of the relationship.

Call It Baggage

Slowly, we push away the people we love and as our human nature effects, the guilt begins to eat us up. Slowly adding onto the pile of baggage we already have. What really makes love a complicated affair is not the baggage we carry but the refusal to fix ourselves and lighten the loads we carry. And just like that, we move onto the next one thinking it’ll mysteriously dissolve our baggage. Damn, aren’t we wrong most times?

We need to fix ourselves. If someone is willing to help you, I don’t see why you should refuse because what do you have to loose other than yourself? So, let them take care of you. I mean, don’t complicate things further than they already are.

I told her love is easy. It’s a mathematical matter with equations that can be solved without necessarily looking for ‘y’ and ‘x’. One plus one is two. But she still wants to complicate it all. She brought in ‘a’ and ‘b’ before we even found ‘x’ and ‘y’.

How could I tell her that it didn’t matter? I didn’t want her to dwell on these fucking equations. But, she pushed me away instead. I wanted to help her. At least the sooner we solved these mysterious, the sooner we’d focus on us. She would be better and she would be mine.
