Poetry: Mayuu
21st
century slavery
Black men don’t
think black is the colour to be
The black you see is unclean
Take these
filters and bleach cream
Be the
change I want you to see
Cut off your
mother tongue
Take this
religion so you could speak in different tongues
You don’t
understand a thing you say, do you?
No wonder
there are no fathers in our motherland
Mental slave
ship sailing to another land
Black pride is
melting on our culture’s hand
Culture
clash a culture abused and trashed
In the midst
of the slavery,
I see
Mandela’s fist in the air, this is backlash
Breaking
shackles, it’s time to free up our mind
They don’t
see the beauty in every shade like we do
Magical
culture, it can’t be compared to demonic vudu
Kings and
queens dipped in melanin and honey
This beauty
runs deep its worth more than money
So tell the
cocoons the butterflies are now fully ‘metamorphosised’
and flying
With the
very early birds who tried to catch them while they were still worms
But they
never forget where they’re from, Africa
From the
roots to the fruits
Its berries
are black and proud, they know,
They got the
juice
And we can
be anything we want to be,
But this is
what we choose to be
‘Black
Without Apology’
